TOWN OF HUME
JUNE 22, 2011
A regular meeting of the Hume Town Board, Allegany County, New York was held at the Town Park Pavilion, 17 Park Drive, Fillmore, New York on June 22, 2011. Supervisor Dennis Ricketts called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM, and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Town officials in attendance included: Supervisor Dennis Ricketts; Council members Daniel Miller, Christopher Austin, Bryce Bower, and Gregory McKurth; Historian Rondus Miller; Highway Superintendent Kevin Peet; Water & Sewer Superintendent Dana Potter; and Clerk Sondra MacEwan.
Councilman Miller moved that the minutes of the June 8, 2011 meeting of the Hume Town Board be accepted as presented. Councilman Austin seconded. 5 ayes, 0 noes.
Historian Rondus Miller used her laptop and a survey map to illustrate the area behind the Museum. These pictures focused the discussion on the use of the blacktopped area—parking, basketball court, or a combination of both. It was tentatively agreed that one hoop should be removed, and a half court area refurbished, with space delineated for parking.
Councilman Austin moved that discussion on the current area behind the Museum be tabled until more data is obtained. Supervisor Ricketts seconded the motion. 5 ayes, 0 noes.
Superintendent Peet was asked to work up a cost estimate for the blacktop area, and Supervisor Ricketts will check with the insurance carrier about coverage costs and signage.
It was also mentioned that the air conditioning unit should be covered.
Ms. Miller also showed pictures of the 4th Grade classes on their tour of Town historical sites, and told of their interest in the Lattice Bridge Cemetery.
The fire escape has been removed.
A stone thrown from the mower struck Louis White’s van, parked at the Museum while Mr. White was painting. The costs for the broken window have been submitted to the Insurance carrier.
Councilman Bower moved that $9081.34 be transferred from unallocated funds to the Sidewalks SM5410.2 for the Sidewalk District portion of the Track Loader purchase. Councilman Miller seconded. 5 ayes, 0 noes.
Councilman McKurth moved that $9081.34 be transferred from the Sewer Capital Reserve for Equipment to the Sewer Equipment Fund subject to permissive referendum. Councilman Bower seconded. 5 ayes, 0 noes.
Councilman McKurth moved that $9081.34 be transferred from the Water Department Capital Reserve for Equipment to the Water Department Equipment Fund subject to permissive referendum. Councilman Bower seconded. 5 ayes, 0 noes.
The Town will bill Kevin Makowski for the sidewalk repair at the end of the church driveway onto Rt. 19A.
There will be a meeting in Caneadea concerning application for funds for the storm damage to area locales.
The dry-weather flow testing has been completed, and the results and recommendations are expected soon.
Councilman Austin moved that the 1995 F450 1-ton Ford truck be declared surplus property; Councilman Bower seconded. 5 ayes, 0 noes.
Supervisor Ricketts moved that the aforementioned truck be sold at auction with a minimum price of $2000.00. Councilman Bower seconded. 5 ayes, 0 noes.
Supervisor Ricketts will attend a meeting with Lynn LaFeber to discuss the Parks Grant and the Trails Grant.
The Board agreed that installation of security cameras be one of the first priorities for the Park Grant.
Supervisor Ricketts reported that FEMA funds are still available for the Cold Creek project, but are still being held back pending Allegany County’s adoption of the Hazard Mitigation Plan. The County hopes to have it passed within 3 weeks.
The Board discussed the RGE StormSafe service that offers a “whole house” surge protector. They decided to seek the opinion of a local electrician, to find out if there is a comparable device that can be installed into the panel box for a one-time fee rather than a monthly addition to the utility bills.
The County Legislator’s Clambake was announced.
Councilman McKurth moved that the meeting be adjourned, and Councilman Austin seconded the motion. 5 ayes, 0 noes. Meeting adjourned at 8:22 PM
The next regular meeting of the Hume Town Board will be July 13, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Town Museum.
