TOWN OF HUME

NOVEMBER 9, 2011

 

A regular meeting of the Hume Town Board, Allegany County, New York was held at the Town of Hume Museum, 10842 Claybed Road, Hume, New York on November 9, 2011.  Supervisor Dennis Ricketts called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM, and he led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

 

Town officials in attendance included: Supervisor Dennis Ricketts; Council members Christopher Austin, Bryce Bower, and Gregory McKurth; Attorney David Pullen; Highway Superintendent Kevin Peet; Deputy Town Clerk Joanne Cockle; and Clerk Sondra MacEwan. Councilman Daniel Miller was absent. Also present was Councilman-elect Bruce Hinz.

 

MINUTES

 

Councilman McKurth moved that the Minutes of the October 12, 2011, October 19, 2011 and November 2, 2011 meetings of the Board be accepted as presented. Councilman Bower seconded. 4 ayes, 0 noes.

 

MUSEUM

 

Historian Rondus Miller reported that 18 residents attended the meeting with Congressman Tom Reed on October 22, 2011.  Approximately 35 residents were present for the Public Hearing on October 26, 2011 to discuss the possible closing of the Hume Post Office.

 

HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT

 

Superintendent Peet is researching insulation for the Town Sheds.

 

He also expressed concern for unlicensed vehicles on area properties, some of which are in the Town right-of-way.  These vehicles need to be removed before plowing begins for the winter season.  Information on property maintenance and junkyard ordinances will be given to the Superintendent.

 

SUPERVISOR’S AGENDA

 

Supervisor Ricketts moved that the Town retain the present Sliding Scale with the present income levels for calculation of Senior Citizen tax exemptions. Councilman Austin seconded the motion. 4 ayes, 0 noes.

 

Councilman Austin moved that the Town send a letter endorsing the not-for-profit application of the Genesee Wilds Project. Councilman McKurth seconded. 4 ayes, 0 noes.

 

Supervisor Ricketts moved that refund payments be authorized for water and sewer accounts with flawed meter readings. Councilman Bower seconded. 4 ayes, 0 noes.

 

Councilman Austin moved that the following list of transfers be approved, and Councilman McKurth seconded the motion. 4 ayes, 0 noes.

CLERK’S TOPICS

 

Councilman Austin moved that the Board issue a Junkyard Permit to Buck’s Used Auto Parts upon a successful inspection. Councilman McKurth seconded.  4 ayes, 0 noes.

 

Councilman McKurth moved that consideration of proposals for a heating system for the Town Hall be tabled and that specifications be written; second by Councilman Bower 4 ayes, 0 noes.

 

Councilman Austin moved that the Town Clerk contact MRB for prepare the specifications for a heating system for the Town Hall.  Supervisor Ricketts seconded. 4 ayes, 0 noes.

 

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

 

Supervisor Ricketts moved that the Board enter Executive Session to consult with the Town Attorney. Councilman McKurth seconded. 4 ayes, 0 noes. The Board entered Executive Session at 7:40 PM and returned to open meeting at 8:35 PM.

 

BILLS AND REPORTS

 

Councilman McKurth moved that the reports of the Supervisor and Clerk be accepted as presented, and that the bills be accepted for payment. Second made by Councilman Austin. 4 ayes, 0 noes.

Councilman Austin moved that the meeting be adjourned. Councilman McKurth seconded. 4 ayes, 0 noes. Meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.

 

The next regular meeting of the Hume Town Board will be December 14, 2011.
